Group dynamics
Group dynamics takes into account attitudes and behavioural patterns of a group. It looks at how groups are formed , their structure and processes followed in the functioning of the group. Thus group dynamics is concerned with interactions and forces operating between groups.
Stages of developing a group. The stages of group development are as follows
-The forming stage is characterised by some confusion and uncertainity due to members of the group not having clear roles to play and possibly not hsaving a strong leader .They
- The storming stage, the group experiences greatest levels of disagreement and conflict and if members fail to fix the problem, the group can face extinction or continue running in an ineffective manner.
-In the norming stage group members are able to acknowledge individual differences and shared expectations .Thus consensus grow among group members.
-Performing stage is characterised with group discussion where individuals accept one another and conflict is resolved. They make decisions focused on to the point. They start doing real work
-Adjourning is characterised by dissolution of the group mainly because objectives of what led to the formation of the group have been accomplished. Individuals go their separate ways
Team strengths
-New ideas can be generated
- Teams provide a variety of experiences, skills and contributions that an organisation needs in order to run effectively.
-Connection
-Innovation
-Dedication
Team weaknesses
-Conflict can arise between team members if there is a disagreement of an idea/ ideas brought up by another team member. If a group fails to contain and resolve the conflict , then the issue spreads to the entire company and this affects overall productivity.
-Lazy members in a team take advantage of efforts other team members make within a group. This demotivates hardworking members and breeds resentment in a team. These problems are referred to as Free-Riding-Issues.
-Compatibility issues might also arise as some employees work well individually than in a group. They hinder progress of the work in a group because they detach themselves from the rest of the team
